Friends aim to show support for the Conservative Manifesto to

“........ protect existing green areas and plant eleven thousand new trees during the lifetime
of this government........”
With the exception of the present Leisure Centre and cricket pavilion, Friends seek the removal of all stands, illegal structures and vehicular parking on the Rec, returning the rugger pitch itself for amatuer sport.

Friends seek the creation of a new, “more permeable” north face to the present Leisure Centre incorporating terraces, new toilets etc, so as to overlook and give access to the Rec, together with use of refurbished changing facilities.

Friends seek the provision of pedestrian access along full length of the river boundary with absolutely no retail activity, of pedestrian access from Great Pulteney Street, from Vine Street, from Pulteney Road and from North Parade.

Friends seek the levelling and planting of a 50m wide band of trees along boundary to river and replanting to other boundaries.

Friends seek arrangements with Trustees for the Rec Charity to create a full programme of usage by local amatuer sport clubs, by schools, and the wider public.

Friends seek the control of night lighting to accord with present Council policies for a ‘dimmed down’ city.
